Hair transplant – is it right for you?

Hair transplant – is it right for you? The first pieces of hairy skin were transplanted by Japanese Dr. Okuda. He took pieces of skin from the hairy part of the head where the hair was least likely to fall out and transplanted it into balding areas.

The main breakthrough in this type of procedure came in 1952 thanks to the publication of Dr. Norman Orentreich in New York. At the beginning, this type of treatment was approached with a considerable distance, but in the 1960s, hair transplantation gained considerable popularity.

Unfortunately, despite the doctors’ efforts, the transplanted hair did not always look natural.

Fortunately, technology has developed significantly since then and today hair transplantation is becoming more and more popular. It has become a good alternative to wigs, hairpieces and toupees and is much more durable than any hair growth products available on the market.

Today, private clinics compete in offering innovative treatments, although hair transplantation is not available to everyone, but it certainly increases the psychological comfort of many people.

Pros and Cons of Hair Transplant

Hair transplantation is mainly performed on men. It cannot simply be used to thicken the hair that most women dream of. This is because in men, hair loss begins from the forehead towards the back of the head, or down from the top of the head. In women, however, it has a completely different form and starts with a parting and goes towards the middle of the head, then extends to the sides without visible traces of bare, hairless skin, which is why women are recommended a hair transplant extremely rarely.

The effect of thickening the hair is limited , thanks to it you will not get your dream thick hair right away, because moving the hair from place to place is to fill in the most thinning areas, and not increase the overall amount of hair.

One treatment is often not enough for a hair transplant, you will need at least 4 treatments, and each of them is associated with costs.

The advantage of this type of treatment is its low invasiveness and a very short recovery period.

Hair transplantation can be performed not only on the scalp, but also on the eyebrows and mustaches, or on the torso in the case of people after sex reassignment surgery.

After a well-performed procedure, no one will guess that you have undergone it! In addition, its effect remains for many years.

This treatment saves the well-being of people who have not worked with special creams, sprays and hair growth products. It is much more effective and allows you to avoid wearing wigs or toupees.

The end result is not visible immediately after the end of the treatment, the waiting time for regrowth and the right hair length can take up to six months, but it is definitely worth the wait.

Contraindications to hair transplant

Not everyone can undergo a hair transplant. Like any procedure, it has some contraindications. The main ones include active neoplastic diseases, uncontrolled diabetes and diseases of the cardiovascular system. People suffering from alopecia areata or struggling with scalp diseases and its inflammations cannot undergo the treatment.STRIP and FUE – the two main methods of hair transplantation

Regardless of the method chosen, it is preceded by a visit to the doctor. During the consultation with your doctor, you determine how the new hairline on the forehead should run and this line is drawn on the scalp. The procedure itself lasts up to 4 hours and is performed under local anesthesia, which makes it completely painless . When deciding on a hair transplant, you can consider one of the two main methods available today.

The STRIP method consists in cutting a strip of hair from the back of the head, then the surgeon prepares grafts containing 1 to 3 hairs, cuts the place where they are to be transplanted and inserts the prepared grafts there. After such treatment, a scar will remain on the head, which you will cover with your hair.

The FUE method  does not require cutting the strip and the individual hair follicles are collected. It is much more expensive than the STRIP method. This procedure leaves only tiny round scars at the points of hair collection and is preferred when small areas need to be refilled. Its advantage is the imperceptibility of scars and the possibility of wearing short hairstyles.

In both methods, the hair is implanted at the right angle, implanted vertically, it would not look natural.

Regardless of the type of procedure performed, sun exposure, swimming and heavy exercise should be avoided for several weeks.

Why does hair fall out?

There are many factors influencing the appearance of the baldness process. Hormones are the most common cause of these adverse changes on your head . The testosterone in your blood is converted by enzymes into DHT which destroys the hair follicles. The back of your head is resistant to this process , which is why the hair follicles are taken from there. In women, however, alopecia is most often caused by a deficiency of estrogens, and alopecia is much less troublesome because it only causes thinning of the hair.

Hair transplantation is becoming more and more popular, and the latest methods allow you to enjoy the appearance of natural hair. The latest methods of performing treatments are minimally invasive and minimize the number of scars, and the convalescence time is so fast that it does not interfere with everyday functioning.
